Using Vicon motion system to capture the reflective markers to generate virtual 3D movement for further analysis, which could synchronize the data of force plate, Electromyography (EMG), and other analog output devices to obtain both kinematic and kinetic data, such speed, joint angle and force, moment, ground reaction force, temporal and spatial parameter, and etc.

Lisa Muratori, PT, Ed.D. | Sonification of Gait in Parkinson's Disease (PD) | Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a progressive nervous system disorder characterized by slow movement, rigidity, tremor, and postural instability. Because of degeneration of specific areas of the brain, individuals with PD have difficulty using internally driven cues to initiate and drive movement. However, many studies have demonstrated an almost normal movement pattern when persons with PD are provided external cues including significant improvements in gait with rhythmic auditory cueing. Sonification represents a novel approach to developing individualized auditory cues based on gait specific motion analysis data. Sonification is the process of using non-speech audio to explore and describe data. We propose to use this process to develop a real-time biofeedback system to to promote long-term improvement of walking. | Co-PIs: Margaret Schedel DMA (Music), Erin Vasudevan Ph.D. (Neurobiology and Behavior), Wei Hou Ph.D. (Biostatistics), Guy Schwartz M.D. (Medicine) |
