Mission Statement & Learning Outcomes

To provide an exceptional educational experience that enables the motivated student to become an exemplary paramedic and a leader in the profession. At the completion of the program, the graduate of the Stony Brook University EMS Programs will demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate clinical information; demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary; and exhibit personal behaviors consistent with professional and employer expectations for paramedics in the United States.

To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession

Learning Outcomes

Goal 1: Students will demonstrate clinical competence of an entry-level paramedic

            Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will deliver prehospital emergency medical care and transport to the sick and injured in accordance with New York State EMS protocol

  • Students will demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of medical and trauma emergencies  

Goal 2: Students will possess critical thinking skills

            Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will adequately respond to challenges faced during emergency medical situations
  • Students will show the ability to provide care in a timely manner

Goal 3: Students will practice with professional values

            Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will display professional and ethical conduct in the performance of their duties.

Goal 4: Students will display effective communication skills
