EMT Courses

Spring 2026 Course Registration Coming Soon!

The Stony Brook University EMT course is a non-credit-bearing certificate program that prepares students to become eligible to sit for the New York State (NYS) and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT exams. The program covers various topics, including patient assessment, airway management, trauma care, and medical emergencies. The hybrid EMT course combines online synchronous didactic learning with in-person clinical skills training.

To become a certified NYS EMT, applicants must meet specific requirements, complete a state-approved EMT course, pass a cognitive and psychomotor exam, and hold current CPR certification. In addition, applicants must pass a background check and meet specific physical and immunization requirements. The Stony Brook University EMT Program is designed to help students meet these requirements and prepare them for a successful career as an EMT.

New York State requires that a student of an EMT program be at least 17 years of age by the last day of the month of the scheduled NYS-BEMS exam.

NYS EMT certification is a prerequisite for the Stony Brook Paramedic Program.
