Mission
We foster critical thinking, evidence-based practice, leadership and professionalism with an emphasis on the development of knowledge, skills and competencies required to succeed in healthcare technology environments.
Strategic Priority I - Education Delivery
Goal I.1 – Growth | Grow by improving access, quality-reputation, and best-in-class education
Objective 1: Increase sustained program cohort enrollment
- Tactic - Develop relationships with potential undergraduate feeder programs across SUNY schools and other NYS programs
- Tactic - Leverage alumni network to serve as program ambassadors and provide insights and mentorship to prospective students
- Tactic - Develop a pathway for undergraduate students in the SBU BSHS program with strong academic records to enter program on an “accelerated” basis
Objective 2: Enhance and sustain program outcomes
- Tactic - Assess student educational and program experience annually

Goal I.2 - Student-Centric | Streamline processes to increase student engagement
Objective 1: Transform workflows to achieve best-in-class performance for recruitment, retention and clinicals
- Tactic - Enhance clinical education workflows to capture student experience during internship/practicum by leveraging a clinical education system
Goal I.3 - Novel Education | Foster education and training experience
Objective 1: Enhance or maintain student job readiness to succeed in the healthcare technology marketplace
- Tactic - Implement a mentorship program that pairs each student with a faculty mentor and/or program alumni within their area of interest
- Tactic - Expand partnership with SBU’s Career Center to provide focused academic advising and career counseling tailored to healthcare technology
Objective 2: Expand curriculum and interdisciplinary course offerings
- Tactic - Develop a new specialization in artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and/or cybersecurity
- Tactic - Create and participate in interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of healthcare and technology through entities such as the Center for Interprofessional Innovation (CIPI)
- Tactic - Develop education partnerships that result in joint courses and/or teaching material
Strategic Priority II - Program Workforce and Culture
Goal II.1 - High-performance Culture | Attract, develop, recognize, and retain an exceptional workforce
Objective 1: Increase faculty diversity
- Tactic - Increase representation of faculty members (including adjuncts) from underrepresented groups
Objective 2: Support faculty success through mentoring, training and leadership development
- Tactic - Implement a mentorship program that pairs a faculty mentor with a faculty member and/or an industry expert within their area of interest
Strategic Priority III - Program Research
Goal III.1 - Novel Research | Promote and expand research initiatives that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries
Objective 1: Establish interdisciplinary research collaborations
- Tactic - Develop research partnerships that result in joint research projects or publications
Objective 2: Increase the number of research grants awarded to faculty
- Tactic - Actively promoting grant opportunities and providing support for proposal development

Goal IV.1 - Cultivating Excellence | Support and advance excellence through the allocation and utilization of resources
Objective 1: Increase the program's overall spending budget by securing additional funding sources
- Tactic - Promote activities that lead to additional philanthropic fundraising opportunities
- Tactic - Raise additional funding through program/project consulting activities
Objective 2: Enhance program reputation
- Tactic - Establish partnerships and affiliations with external industry organizations at regional and/or national level (e.g., HIMSS, AMIA, etc.) to enhance program visibility

Goal V.1 - Expansion of Partnerships | Expand and advance internal and external partnerships to strengthen community connections and affiliate relationships
Objective 1: Expand partnerships with healthcare technology companies, nonprofits and other potential partners
- Tactic - Develop partnerships and affiliations with internship and project partners to provide internship opportunities, guest lectures, and collaborative research projects for students
- Tactic - Establish an Advisory Board composed of industry leaders and alumni to provide guidance on curriculum development and career opportunities
