Alumni Perspectives

I am working in my dream specialty, six months post-graduation, during a pandemic, all due to the hard work and dedication from the faculty and staff from Stony Brook’s Occupational Therapy Program. This program fully prepared me for my board exams, job interviews, professional standards, and patient interactions. Throughout my time at Stony Brook, I felt personally known by my professors and knew that they were cheering me on at every milestone. I am incredibly grateful for the connections made and the doors opened for me through Stony Brook University.

The Stony Brook occupational therapy program encouraged me to develop my own style and really prepared me to be an OT in the real world. The professors are well rounded, knowledgeable, and committed to the success of each student. I am proud to say I am a Stony Brook OT alumni.

—Jeanine MacKenzie, OTR/L

As a new graduate from the Stony Brook Occupational Therapy Program, I feel that I entered the workforce with not only a solid foundation in the theory and practice of occupational therapy, but the skills to operate as a professional in a variety of practice settings.

Stony Brook taught me that being a great OT practitioner goes beyond clinical skills- through developing my ideas of professionalism, globalism, and ethics, Stony Brook has laid the framework for me to truly flourish as a client centered practitioner. As a new graduate, I feel confident with the skill set Stony Brook gave me, to be able to provide quality care to my patients in any type of setting.
