My experience within the program has given me the opportunity to pursue my goal for personal growth and professional development. Our professors have helped us develop a strong work ethic, which will allow us to serve society in ways that are relevant and forward-thinking. Another aspect I love about the OT program at Stony Brook is the fact that I am able to fulfill my passion for giving back to the community by volunteering at various events with my fellow classmates. An exciting challenge was serving as fundraising chair for the Student Occupational Therapy Association. This included organizing charitable events to promote the OT program. The relationships I have established with faculty and peers continually inspire me to always strive to do my best. The amount of dedication and hard work will ultimately enable me to become a successful practitioner. I am proud of how much I have accomplished this far and look forward to the rest of my journey at Stony Brook Southampton.
— JB, Class of 2017, (Southampton Class)
Thus far, I have grown so much since entering SBU Southampton’s OT program. The professors here have guided me to become the person that I’ve always wanted to be. Aside from challenging me to improve my critical thinking and clinical knowledge, their classes have helped me to develop a work ethic that I have never had before. I have learned to take the initiative to exceed my goals and because of this, I have accomplished more than I ever thought I was capable of doing.
— LL , Class 2017 (Southampton Class)
The SBU Southampton occupational therapy program has been a challenging and rewarding experience. I never imagined being able to obtain and understand so much information in such a short period of time. The professors and clinical experience have made a large impact on the vast amount of knowledge that I have learned. I have really been able to grow to become more professional and to ultimately be the best I can be. I am intrigued to see what the future holds.
— AA, Class 2017 (Southampton Class)
Being a student in the Occupational Therapy program at Stony Brook University has been a rewarding journey. Looking back at the student I was when I entered the program shows how much my education at Stony Brook has helped me grow. The learning experience in the occupational therapy program does not only take place in the classroom. I have had many fieldwork and volunteer experiences that have greatly impacted my education. With the help, guidance, and support from professors and classmates, the challenging aspects of the program are easily overcome.
This program has given me confidence in myself to know I will be a successful occupational therapist following graduation.

We here at SBU OT Program, encourage our students to give back to the community and make a difference in people's lives, even outside of the OT realm. Here is a letter written by the Regional Director of a local organization praising the wonderful volunteerism of our students!
Please share this with your students.
I would like to personally thank all of you who responded to the request to send notes/cards of love and support to our seniors that are isolated in our nursing homes. Your kindness is beyond words and has brightened the day of many of our most lonely and vulnerable residents. I can’t thank you enough. Below you will see a picture of all of the cards collected and then shared with our residents.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
