Dr. James Pierre-Glaude is a distinguished academic and thought leader in the field of healthcare education, with over a decade of experience advancing educational practices and fostering inclusive learning environments. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University’s School of Health Professions, where he also serves as the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. His academic journey began at Stony Brook University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees. His commitment to education is further demonstrated by his completion of an educational doctorate (EdD) from the University at Buffalo, where he investigated the impact of cultural competency training on healthcare education.
Dr. Pierre-Glaude’s academic career is marked by his dedication to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. He has contributed significantly to the academic community through peer-reviewed publications and presentations, with topics ranging from cultural competence in healthcare education to the unique challenges faced by adaptive athletes. His research on cultural competency training within graduate health profession education curricula is particularly noteworthy, as it addresses the critical need for healthcare providers to understand and incorporate cultural intelligence when providing care in an increasingly diverse society.
As a scholar, Dr. Pierre-Glaude is also committed to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals. He has clinically supervised and mentored countless students across various accredited athletic training and physical therapy programs, ensuring that they are academically proficient, culturally aware and compassionate in their practice. His dedication to student success is reflected in the numerous awards he has received, including the Stony Brook University Provost Outstanding Mentor Award and the Stony Brook University Alumni Association’s Top 40 Under 40 honor.
Beyond his contributions to healthcare education, Dr. Pierre-Glaude is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Physical Therapy Association, the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. His involvement in these organizations, coupled with his leadership roles within the University, positions him as a key figure in shaping the future of healthcare education.
In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Dr. Pierre-Glaude is deeply committed to community service. He has volunteered his expertise at many community-wide events, including the NYC ING Marathon, Long Island Marathon, and the USA National Amputee Soccer Team. Currently, he serves as a Board Member/Treasurer for the American Amputee Soccer Association and the Chair for the American Physical Therapy Association - NY Chapter’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. His work in these areas highlights his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact both within and beyond the academic community.
