Welcome to Stony Brook University’s Athletic Training Program!

The athletic training program at Stony Brook University is housed in the School of Health Professions within Stony Brook Medicine and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students who complete the requirements for the Master of Science degree in the Athletic Training program will be eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Exam.

The athletic training program at Stony Brook has a rich 37-year history. The internship program began in the 1980’s and developed into a successful baccalaureate major in the early 2000’s ending in May 2020. With over 250 graduates employed in various levels of patient care we are excited to begin a new chapter of our program’s history with the first Master of Science in Athletic Training degree awarded in the spring 2021. We look forward to continuing to prepare students for a future in athletic training at the graduate level.

The athletic training program at Stony Brook University is designed to provide quality classroom, laboratory, and online instruction in conjunction with hands-on clinical experiences at NCAA Division I, II and III athletic programs, competitive high school sports, physician practice and industrial settings. Our program is dedicated to contributing to the body of knowledge in our profession by continuing to encourage various research initiatives. By being embedded within athletics and medicine within our community we promote building relationships through interaction with physicians and valuable community service involvement. Completion of this comprehensive program is sure to prepare students to become competent and confident athletic trainers.

Our expert faculty employ experiences from various levels of patient care into the classroom while disseminating the most up to date evidence-based information to prepare our graduates as they enter the healthcare field and work with diverse populations.
