Dr. Rosalia Casanova is a licensed occupational therapist, certified Driver Rehabilitation Professional (DRP), and New York State Certified Driving Instructor (CDI) with advanced clinical expertise in adult physical rehabilitation, upper extremity assessment, prosthetics and orthotics, and community-based practice. She earned her Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from Boston University in 2019, a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from Stony Brook University in 2011, and an Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy from Suffolk County Community College in 2007.
Dr. Casanova’s clinical background spans geriatric and adult rehabilitation, physical disabilities, neurorehabilitation, and clinical management. She has extensive experience in New York State Medicare and Medicaid SNF regulatory compliance, ACOTE fieldwork standards, and quality assurance in clinical education.
Her research interests include driver rehabilitation, cultural humility, interprofessional education (IPE), occupational therapy pedagogy, and burnout prevention. She serves as faculty advisor for Stony Brook University’s SOTA and COTAD chapters and is an active member of NYSOTA, AOTA, COTAD, ADED, WFOT, and LILTA.
As a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Occupational Therapy Program at Stony Brook University, Dr. Casanova teaches graduate-level coursework in Assessment & Intervention in Physical Rehabilitation, Physical Agent Modalities in OT, Global to Community Practice in OT, Healthcare Policy & Advocacy in OT. Her teaching emphasizes evidence-based practice, community-centered care, and the integration of advanced clinical reasoning across the continuum of adult rehabilitation.
