Sean M. Getty, OTD, OTR/L, serves as the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator for the Department of Occupational Therapy at Stony Brook University. With a strong commitment to student development and experiential learning, he oversees all aspects of capstone project preparation, completion, and dissemination, collaborates with clinical partners, and ensures that students are supported throughout their capstone residency.

Sean brings extensive experience in occupational therapy practice, higher education administration, and program evaluation. His work focuses on creating meaningful learning opportunities, strengthening community partnerships, and enhancing the overall student experience. He is particularly passionate about preparing future practitioners to think critically, advocate for their clients, and engage in evidence‑based, occupation‑centered care.

In addition to his administrative role, Sean leads initiatives that promote student engagement, professional identity formation, and creative approaches to learning. He currently teaches the following courses: Functional Human Anatomy, Functional Neuroscience, Assessment and Intervention in Mental Health, and Assessment and Intervention in Substance Abuse Treatment.

Dr. Getty received his post-professional OTD from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in May 2020 and his Bachelor’s of Health Science/Master’s in Occupational Therapy combined degrees from Touro College in 2005.  He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from SUNY Stony Brook in 2000. His clinical practice has primarily been in mental health and administration, with a focus on recovery-based approaches for persons with severe mental illness.
