The Health Science major is a four-year program that begins with three years of guided liberal arts study on Stony Brook University's west campus. Students then join the School of Health Professions in the fall semester of their senior year, taking a variety of courses that prepare them for entry-level jobs in non-clinical and clinical areas of health care.

The Health Science program also offers affordable tuition, personal attention, multidisciplinary learning, close ties to a major teaching hospital, superior research and a superlative computer training center. It is with learning community principles in mind, that the Health Science program structured its senior year curriculum. A learning community model of education purposefully restructures curriculum by linking or clustering courses that enroll a common cohort of students. This represents an intentional restructuring of the student's time, credit, and learning experiences to build community, and foster more explicit connections among faculty, students, and disciplines. The Health Science program coordinates integrative projects designed to promote student-to-student and faculty-to-student success by offering thematically linked classes comprised of a common cohort of students.
