The 24th Outstanding Alumni Award Recipients
On September 6, 2018 the School of Health Technology and Management celebrated the accomplishments of some of its most distinguished alumni. The 24th Outstanding Alumni Award recipients, Arturo (Roy Flores), Class of 2000, Athletic Training; Ira Gorman, Class of 1979, Physical Therapy; Gwenn Schwerdel, Class of 2012, Clinical Laboratory Sciences; Jonathan Sobel, Class of 1991, Physician Assistant; and Juliette Vendryes, Class of 2010, Respiratory Care, spoke about their experiences as students at Stony Brook, their professional achievements, and provided words of wisdom to the students in attendance.
Undergraduate Pre-Requisite Courses in Speech-Language Pathology
The School of Health Technology and Management is offering five undergraduate pre-requisite courses in speech-language pathology (SLP) for students who are interested in applying for admission to graduate programs in SLP at colleges/universities.
Michael A. Maffetone Community Service Award
Audra Perrino, Assistant to the Chair, Physician Assistant Education program, is this year's recipient of the Michael A. Maffetone Community Service Award. Audra oversees many PA community service efforts. This year's work had an enormous impact on the lives of so many residents from our local communities. Audra helped orchestrate a costume/Halloween party, toy drive/visit with Santa, and a spring event/game night at Help Suffolk. She also coordinated a food drive for Pronto in Brentwood and a blood drive at University Hospital. In addition, the pre-PA club volunteers their efforts at the Long Island State Vets Home transporting residents to support services and helps them train for the Senior Special Olympics.
