The Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn, Metro Physical Therapy Scholarship

The Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn, Metro Physical Therapy Scholarship was created by Michael Mayrsohn who is a member of Stony Brook’s Physical Therapy Class of 2012.  The scholarship is in honor of Michael’s mother, Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn.  Michael and Sherrie are both owners and directors of Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy.  As of 2021, Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy has 15 locations across Long Island and has expanded their practice to include Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology and Mental Health services.

Sherrie Glasser Mayrsohn, PT, MS, is widely known across her profession as being an expect in orthopedic, sports and geriatric physical therapy.  Sherrie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy at Stony Brook University in 1977 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy at the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences in Atlanta, Georgia.  Sherrie is an active member of ASSET (American Society for Shoulder & Elbow Therapists) and AIPT (American Independent Physical Therapy), the American Physical Therapy Association and the Northeast Women’s Health Student Group.  Sherrie has a great passion for working with the geriatric population, incorporating senior wellness, golf fitness and fall prevention.

Because of the Mayrsohn family’s exceptional affinity to Stony Brook, they have decided to establish this named scholarship to support deserving students in the Physical Therapy program.

NY Speaks Speech-Language Bilingual Extension Scholarship

NY Speaks specializes in assessing and treating bilingual/bicultural children from birth to 21. It is a New York State-approved early intervention agency that holds a primary contract with the New York City Department of Education. NY Speaks would like to support the next generation of bilingual certification students with scholarship assistance. Currently, bilingual speech pathologists comprise 8% of the population, and NY Speaks hopes to bridge that gap by creating this scholarship.

The Scholarship will provide support for graduate students in the School of Health Professions. Students who are eligible to receive the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a graduate student in the Speech-Language Pathology program pursuing the Advanced Graduate Certificate for Bilingual Extension as defined by Stony Brook policy.
  • Demonstrate good academic achievement as defined by Stony Brook policy.
  • Preference given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services based on completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Award Amount: Up to $4,500

The Carlos Vidal Memorial Scholarship

A two-time Stony Brook alumnus, Dr. Carlos Vidal was deeply committed to his alma mater.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in social welfare in 1976 and his Master of Social Work from Stony Brook University.  He received his Doctor of Social Work and PhD degrees from the Graduate School of Social Services at Fordham University, specializing in child welfare research.

Dr. Vidal first joined the Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare faculty in 1978, and rose through the academic ranks of the School, eventually entering the dean’s office as Associate Dean for External Affairs and Development.  He then moved to the School of Health Professions as Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Development, and then as Associate Dean of Operations.

Dr. Vidal also held a faculty appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies and was an Affiliate Associate Professor in the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center at Stony Brook University.  In January 2018, Dr. Vidal stepped forward as Interim Dean of the School of Health Professions following Dr. Craig Lehman’s transition out of the office.

Eligibility Criteria

The Carlos Vidal Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate student for the 2025-2026 academic year. Students who are eligible to apply for and receive the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

A.    Be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student in the School of Health Professions as defined by Stony Brook University;

B.    Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services;

C.    Preference will be given to applicants who participate in campus activities or student groups or otherwise demonstrate a commitment to the campus community as self-reported and documented during the application process;

D.    Students participating in the New York State Excelsior Scholarship are not eligible for tuition support.  For students participating in New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship, the Carlos Vidal Memorial Scholarship is solely and exclusively for non-tuition expenses as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services (non-tuition expenses typically include room and board, insurance, student fees, travel, books and supplies, personal expenses or other common non-tuition expenses as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services).

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions - Student Scholarship of Excellence

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions sponsors a scholarship program for health professions students enrolled in its member schools.

The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize outstanding students in the allied health professions who are achieving excellence in their academic programs and have significant potential to assume future leadership roles in health professions. The selected student will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Harvey Milk Scholarship Award for Student Leadership in Improving Campus LGBTQIA+ Experiences

In recognition of Pride Month, State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. announced the Harvey Milk Award for Student Leadership. The new scholarship, named in honor of University at Albany class of 1951 alumnus and LGBTQIA+ rights champion Harvey Milk, recognizes an outstanding upper-level student who has dedicated their time to improving LGBTQIA+ inclusiveness on their campus for fellow students.

The following is the criteria for the award:

  • Open to all SUNY, full time students
  • Upper-class (sophomore, junior, and senior) students and graduate students
  • Students in good academic standing
  • Demonstrate a commitment to advancing an inclusive campus community to enhance LGBTQIA+ members’ sense of belonging and experiences
  • Demonstrate leadership experiences that have significant and positive impact on campus or local communities in relation to LGBTQIA+ communities, including but not limited to remove barriers that affect LGBTQIA+ experiences, advocate policy changes, or implement campus-wide events/celebration
  • Nomination required, which includes self-nomination. A one-page essay to support student's candidacy that demonstrates student’s involvement and leadership experiences as described in scholarship eligibility and requirement. All nominations must include one letter of recommendation.

Healthcare Workers for Our Future Scholarship

The “Healthcare Workers for Our Future” Scholarship provides a two-year scholarship to approximately 500 selected recipients covering tuition, room and board, and other related expenses in an approved program of study at any approved New York state public or private college or university (not to exceed the average cost of attendance at a state-operated SUNY or the winner’s actual cost of attendance, whichever is less) in approved fields of study (see site for approved fields).

Daughters of the American Revolution

Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education in diverse areas of study including history, economics, law, political science, medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, elementary and secondary education, chemistry, math, science and English. 

DAR’s scholarships are awarded and judged without regard to gender, race, color, religion, national origin, or disability.

  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States.
  • Applicants must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • All multi-year scholarships, typically renewable up to four years, must be for consecutive years of attendance.
  • Awards are based on academic excellence, commitment to the field of study, and/or financial need, or other restrictions on specific scholarships.
  • Awards are placed on deposit with the recipient’s college or university and any unused portion shall be returned to the DAR.
  • Applicants are only eligible to receive one scholarship from the DAR.

DAR is pleased to announce all students applying for scholarships offered by the DAR Scholarship Committee will submit their applications using the online application portal below.  Emailed or mailed applications will no longer be accepted, unless applying for the Margaret Howard Hamilton Scholarship.

Western Psychological Services (WPS) introduces Neurodiversity and Student Diversity Scholarships, enhancing behavioral health education access. Aligned with WPS's CSR Mission, these scholarships foster community engagement, partnerships, diversity, and environmental responsibility. Your assistance in promoting this scholarship on your website is greatly appreciated.

The Neurodiversity Scholarship, offering a $2,500 award, targets students with identified neurodivergence like autism or ADHD. Eligibility mandates enrollment in accredited US universities, pursuing careers such as clinicians, educators, psychologists, therapists, or administrators.

The Student Diversity Scholarship provides a $2,500 grant to students contributing unique insights on race, gender, religion, and disability. Eligible candidates must be current students of accredited two-year or four-year American universities aspiring to enter behavioral health professions.

The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) and the Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP), both of which offer significant financial support to students pursuing degrees in the medical field.


Dick Hannah Dealership Scholarship

Dick Hannah Dealership is pleased to announce its college scholarship program that will award two $1,000 scholarships per year to eligible students. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have a high school transcript, be US citizens, and be high school seniors. This scholarship can be used at any accredited four-year college or university for tuition, books, and supplies. Applicants from any area of study can apply for this scholarship. The Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship

The Richard Rawle Memorial Scholarship from Check City is pleased to announce a $2,000 scholarship essay contest for college students. This scholarship contest is named after Richard Rawle, the father of Check City CEO Tracy Rawle. The Rawle family believes that education is essential for a community to thrive, and with this scholarship, students can finance their education and contribute to society. The applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year university or college in the United States with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Hillel International Scholarships

Hillel International scholarships are open to students who identify as Jewish, in the U.S. and Canada, who are attending or preparing to attend four-year colleges and universities or graduate school. 

Lilly E. Reiser Graduate Student Award: The Lilly E. Reiser Graduate Student Award is given annually to a Jewish student who will be attending graduate school in the U.S. in the upcoming school year and who has demonstrated academic excellence and made a difference in their community. Applicants must self-identify as Jewish. Previous attendance at Hillel events is NOT a requirement for this scholarship. Frimer First Generation Student Scholarship​​​​​​​: The Frimer First Generation Student Scholarship is being awarded to an incoming or current college student seeking a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university who has demonstrated an impact of leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or volunteerism in their local or campus community. To qualify as a first-generation student, the applicant’s parents/guardians must not have completed a four-year college or university degree. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must self-identify as Jewish. Behrman Campus Leadership Award: The Behrman Campus Leadership Award is being awarded to two full-time students seeking a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university who demonstrate extraordinary leadership abilities and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must self-identify as Jewish and commit to attending at least one Hillel event in the upcoming school year.
