On November 17, 2021, at the American Association of Sleep Technologist's Annual Meeting, Lisa Endee was awarded the AAST Professional Development Service Award. This is a national award which honors and recognizes an AAST member who demonstrates exceptional commitment to advancing education in sleep technology. Congratulations, Lisa!

Physician Assistant Class of 2022 and Class of 2023 Student Society Event
The Physician Assistant Program is holding an event on Friday, September 3 from 12-1 PM in HSC Lecture Hall 6. The Class of 2022 Student Society members will be speaking to Class of 2023 students to provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of their student society position. Lunch is scheduled from 1-2 PM on the HSC level 5 patio (weather permitting) to mingle and get to know one another; it is a bring your own lunch event.

Chances are that you, or someone you know, has been diagnosed with Lyme or another tick-borne disease. Gerald Simons, MPAS, DFAAPA, PA-C, a member of the Medical Advisory Panel of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center, will speak about the types of diseases that are carried by the different species of ticks found on Eastern Long Island, and the symptoms, diagnostic tests, and treatment options that are available. Tips on preventing tick bites will also be shared.

We welcome students and alumni, along with guest speaker, Dr. Melissa Earle of Stony Brook School of Social Welfare. This event will feature an alumni panel along with program-specific breakout rooms for alumni and students, followed by a wrap-up discussion and Q & A session.

On February 26th, Rasheed Davis, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Physician Assistant Education Program, spoke at the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislators Caucus. Rasheed was part of the program's panel of experts with a talk focused on Black Maternal Health, a health issue that she is bringing awareness to and very passionate about. Over 70 percent of those entering the healthcare industry are women. Despite that significant percentage, women, especially women of color, remain underrepresented in leadership positions.
