Keynote Speaker: Jonathan Conyers, '17 Respiratory Care
Jonathan Conyers is the author of the high acclaimed memoir I Wasn’t Supposed to Be Here (Legacy Lit, imprint of Hachette) (Pub Date: September 5, 2023). He graduated from Stony Brook University as an EOP student in 2017 and left a huge impact on our campus. He was know as “Mr. Far Beyond” when he attended and his faced towered over Melville Library, our campus buses and in our hospital for years. He left an impact here on campus and was a model student.
Jonathan Conyers is also the founder of Conyers Media and the host of The Professional Winner Podcast. Jonathan sits on the Board and helps run the Brooklyn Debate League which is a non-profit whose mission is to bring speech and debate to at-risk communities. They are currently filming a documentary with Vice News and have had 14 of their scholars compete at some of the biggest tournaments in the Speech & Debate world.
Jonathan was featured in a 12-post story on Humans of New York that lead to 1.3 million dollars being raised for his non-profit the Brooklyn Debate League and it was liked by over 1 million people. He has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, The Kelly Clarkson Show and more.
He also works as a respiratory therapist, specializing in neonates and pediatrics at New York University Langone Hospital and was a champion for our nation through the COVID crisis.
Jonathan has recently committed to a deal with Elliot Page and Pageboy Production who are in negotiations to bring his exceptional life to the big screen.
He currently lives in New York City with his wife and three young children.

THE EDMUND J. MCTERNAN UNDERGRADUATE HONOR AWARDS
The purpose of the Edmund J. McTernan Honor Award is to further the educational mission of the School of Health Professions and is named in memory of the founding Dean of the school, the late Edmund J. McTernan Sr. This year’s recipients were selected based on the criteria put forth by the fund, including academic achievement.

School of Health Professions criteria for Graduation with Honors for undergraduate degree candidates - at least 60 credits with an HSC cumulative grade point average as follows: Cum Laude 3.6; Magna Cum Laude 3.75; Summa Cum Laude 3.85. Please note: All honors are based on the current grade point average at the time of publication. The actual honor awarded may be different as it is based on the FINAL grade point average, determined after finals are completed. The actual honor will appear on the final transcript and diploma.
In 1982, the School of Health Professions established a chapter of Alpha Eta, the National Honor Society of the Allied Health Professions. Faculty review student records and nominate those students who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement (a grade point average of at least 3.5 for baccalaureate degree candidates and 3.8 for graduate degree candidates) and dedication to their chosen profession. This honor is extended to not more than twenty percent of any graduating class.
