Training Opportunities

As a Regional Training Center and Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education & Training Center, many CPHE training courses are accepted towards meeting the continuing education training hours required by the Office of Continuing Medical Education, School of Medicine for CMEs and CMUs and CEs for the Peer Certification program. These educational credits are free of charge. As a local regional partner of the Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education & Training Center, CPHE is committed to building the capacity of healthcare professionals Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties by providing a wide range of training opportunities including lectures, preceptorships, webinars, conferences, technical assistance and clinical consultations to healthcare providers, agencies and professionals. Training consultants and staff are adept at developing and tailoring training presentations to meet the unique needs of each provider. CPHE offers trainings under different modalities. These are:

CLINICAL CONSULTATIONS

Our Clinical Director, Dr. Joseph McGowan, is available to provide individual and group clinical consultation services that provide expert medical and clinical guidance to clinicians caring for patients with HIV/AIDS and related issues. In addition to being our Clinical Director, Dr. McGowan is the Medical Director of the Center for AIDS Research and Treatment (CART) at the North Shore University Hospital.

DIDACTIC PRESENTATION

These lecture-type presentations may also include panel discussions, self-instructional materials, journal clubs, and conferences.  Program lengths vary from brief lectures to full-day conferences.

SKILLS BUILDING/INTERACTIVE TRAINING

These interactive, skills-building activities may include discussion of cases supplied by the trainer, role-play, simulated patient-provider workshops, and train-the-trainer models.

CLINICAL TRAINING

These interactive training programs put the participant in touch with actual clinical care experiences with patients.  Activities may include preceptorships, 'mini residencies,' or observation of clinical care.

CLINICAL GUIDANCE/COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE

For patient-specific clinical guidance, specialists throughout the Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education & Training Center region are available by telephone, email, or in person.  Clinical consultations and discussion of cases supplied by the participant/trainee make this program extremely rich in learning and experience.  The Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education & Training Center is partnering with the HRSA/AETC National HIV/AIDS Clinician's Consultation Center which includes the Warmline (800-993-3413), and PEPline (888-HIV-4911), clinical guidance services that are staffed 24 hours a day.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

As part of our ongoing support services, the Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education & Training Center offers resources, guidance, and assistance to improve HIV service delivery and performance at an organizational level. Technical assistance can be tailored to meet a specific need or request.

PRECEPTORSHIP

CPHE offers preceptorship opportunities to health care providers as part of their HIV care and treatment training which can include all of the above and observational experiences with Infectious Disease Clinicians.
