Biography
Giuseppina attended Stony Brook as an undergraduate in the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program. She graduated Stony Brook University with a BS in Health Science ('09), MS in Physiology & Biophysics ('11), and MPH ('12). She has experience working as a health programs coordinator in a high school based health center through a federally qualified health center in Brooklyn. There, Giuseppina worked on health promotion and health programming with a focus on adolescent and reproductive health. Next, she was a program coordinator for the Keeping Families Healthy program in Stony Brook Pediatrics. She ran the program, which provided home visits and care coordination to families deemed at risk.
Giuseppina has also worked as a clinical trials program coordinator at Stony Brook Cancer Center. With a research background, this change seemed very interesting to her. She learned many things in this role and really did enjoy it, but wanted to return to her community work. That brought Giuseppina to her current position as a health education specialist at the Stony Brook Cancer Center's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. As a certified health education specialist (CHES), she knew this was the perfect culmination of all of her prior experiences. In this role, Giuseppina goes out into the community to educate others about cancer prevention and screening. She works with diverse populations, in diverse settings. Every day is different, and she really enjoys being "boots on the ground".
Almost everything in Giuseppina's life ties her to Stony Brook, her education, her work, where she met her husband, where she made lifelong friends, where she started her passion for travel (Study Abroad, Summer 2007, Italy), and where she gave birth to both of her children.
