SHP DEIB Fostering Respect in Healthcare

Introduction

Fostering Respect in Healthcare is a highly interactive 90-minute workshop that equips faculty, staff, and students with the knowledge and skills to recognize, address, and prevent microaggressive behaviors, reinforcing why this work is essential to building a culture of respect, inclusion, and excellence in patient care and collaborative practice. Grounded in the Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Medicine strategic plans, the program advances shared commitments to equity, diversity, collaboration, and workforce development while supporting timely, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive care. Aligned with the missions of the Health Science Schools and the Program in Public Health, the workshop fosters interdisciplinary engagement, strengthens learning and work environments, and prepares current and future health professionals to deliver high-quality, equitable care to diverse communities locally and globally.
